Build the relationship you both desire.
Our couples therapy focuses on the growth and development of each of you individually and as a unit. We help you learn to build tolerance for & negotiate your differences, a key to a strong, satisfying, long-term relationship.
We are a team of highly skilled pro-marriage counselors with decades of experience not only in couples therapy but also trauma and specific therapies such as ART & EMDR.
You will learn to recognize the harmful patterns causing stress and conflict in your relationship, and more importantly, learn to change them with the support of your pro-marriage counselor.
Choose in-person or virtual counseling sessions, or a mix of both. We have offices in Richardson and Frisco, TX, and offer online sessions from anywhere.
We work with Texas couples who are ...
- Frustrated at their inability to communicate
- Constantly arguing over the same issues
- Reeling from infidelity or betrayal trauma
- Unhappy but don't know how to fix it
- Walking on eggshells
- Struggling with kids, work, in-laws, and desire differences — just to name a few
- Planning to get married or remarried
- Blending families
- Considering divorce or trying to avoid it
- Dealing with the effects of childhood traumas
- Feeling more like roommates than lovers
- Losing hope for their marriage, or just needing a relationship refresh

Why Choose The Marriage Place?
We specialize in couples. Our counselors' caseloads are 90%+ couples, which means we've seen almost everything at least once. We also know what works and what doesn't.
Our counselors meet regularly to do case consults, giving you the benefit of an entire team of highly skilled therapists with decades of experience in couples therapy, trauma, and specific therapies such as ART & EMDR.
We take your relationship as our client as much as we take the two of you in it, and then show you how things can be better. We believe most marriages can be saved if you are willing to put in the work.
Real Couples. Real Change.
"They literally helped save my marriage. They insist on specific daily exercises to teach you & your partner to communicate positively again. It's about moving forward, forgiving & learning to appreciate again."
"The Marriage Place helped my family stay together. The therapists really care and want the best for spouses. I'd recommend anyone going through a rough time to make an appointment."
"Convenient location, super professional, and our therapist has been very helpful. They gave us tools we could carry beyond counseling — exactly what we needed."
Kim Bowen, LPC-S
Owner / Founder, The Marriage PlaceEvery relationship changes over time as partners grow individually and as a couple. When a couple isn't equipped for these normal developmental changes, they get stuck in unhealthy patterns of unresolved, recurring conflict, and begin to lose hope.
If this sounds like your relationship, now is the time to do something about it. Let us help you get unstuck — and show you why you got stuck so you don't end up back there again. Our couples counseling will help you learn to:
- Express your needs & desires, and allow your partner to do the same
- Make repairs when you've caused hurt or damage
- Tolerate & negotiate your differences
- Establish & maintain healthy boundaries
- Recognize self-sabotaging behaviors
- Address conflict in a productive way
Listen, marriage is a risky business for anyone. All too often couples call it quits way too early and for very little reason other than they lose hope of ever feeling any differently. But for most marriages, IT CAN BE DIFFERENT. We can show you how.

Counseling Your Way
In addition to in-person sessions at our offices in Richardson & Frisco, we also offer virtual sessions from the location of your choice. Studies show online couples counseling is an equally effective option compared to in-person therapy.
No longer do you have to be in the same room with your therapist to get great care. All you need is a device and strong wifi.
Online counseling eliminates extra travel time and makes it easier to fit sessions into your already busy life.
If talking to a stranger in a strange place has felt like too much, do your sessions wherever you feel most at ease.
Live in a rural area without specialized counseling options nearby? No problem — we come to you.

What are your counseling rates?
Rates are based on session length and counselor. 50-minute sessions with a fully licensed therapist start at $195; 80-minute sessions start at $315. The first couple's session is generally 80 minutes. We also offer reduced rates with LPC/LMFT Associates or Masters-level interns — reach out if cost is a concern.
Do you take insurance?
The Marriage Place is an out-of-network provider and doesn't process insurance claims directly, but many clients submit for reimbursement on their own using the documentation we provide. We also accept FSA and HSA cards for payment.
Do you only work with couples, and do you have to be married?
No and no. We work with both couples and individuals, married and unmarried — including those never married, considering marriage, or working through whether to stay married.
We've tried marriage therapy before. What makes you different?
We take your marriage as our client, not just bandage the relationship. Couples therapy accounts for more than 90% of our counselors' work, focused on understanding how you got here and creating lasting change.
What if I want counseling but my partner doesn't?
Come anyway. We can teach you how to change your relationship — and potentially shift your spouse's attitude toward working on it — simply by focusing on your side of the street.
What if there has been an affair? Can my marriage be saved?
Yes — most marriages heal after infidelity. It won't be easy, but it's very possible to rebuild trust and the foundation of the relationship with focused repair work.
Are you going to tell me to leave my partner or suggest divorce?
We hate divorce and are advocates for the marriage relationship. The only time we tell a couple to consider separation is if one partner is being abused in some way by the other. We believe only the two of you in the marriage are qualified to decide if your marriage can or should be saved. Our job is to help you thoughtfully make those decisions.
Do you offer a Christian perspective?
We do — though our practice is not limited to Christian counseling. We serve a diverse clientele of varying faith backgrounds. For clients who request to incorporate faith into the therapy process, we welcome the opportunity. Please let us know at the time of booking so we can match you with one of our Christian therapists who offer this service.
